The Journal of Inflammation Research is an international, peer-reviewed, open access journal that welcomes laboratory and clinical findings on the molecular basis, cell biology and pharmacology of inflammation.

Specific topics covered by the journal include:

  • acute/chronic inflammation
  • mediators of inflammation
  • cellular processes
  • molecular mechanisms
  • neuroimmune mechanisms
  • pharmacology and novel anti-inflammatory drugs
  • clinical conditions involving inflammation

The journal welcomes the following article types on all aspects of inflammation unless otherwise stated below.

The journal does not consider case reports except in circumstances where they make a valuable contribution to the literature. Protocols of prospective studies need to be accompanied by detailed and original video demonstrations of the proposed research. Bibliometric studies are welcome but must add significantly to the body of knowledge about inflammation research, and meta-analyses are not considered for publication.

When considering submission of a paper utilizing publicly available data (e.g. SEER/GWAS/TCGA/GEO/Vigibase etc.), authors should ensure that such studies add significantly to the body of knowledge about a specific disease or relevant phenotype and that they are validated using the authors’ own data through replication in an independent sample set and functional follow-up. Bioinformatics studies should also conform to these criteria.

Studies using natural product extracts/decoctions will only be considered if the active compound(s) has been adequately identified and validated. While it is often not possible to identify the “one and only active compound” from an extract or decoction, efforts should be made to provide key insights into the active ingredient(s). Authors should consider and discuss the possibility that several active compounds exhibit a synergistic effect and, thus, the mixture is more than the sum of the effects of its purified ingredients.

The journal welcomes submissions to the following sections:

For the following subject areas, please consider submitting to the related titles indicated:

Toxicology - Immunopharmacology and Immunotoxicology or Journal of Immunotoxicology. IAI (Open Select) focuses on immunoregulatory and immunotoxicity research, immunotherapy of chronic disorders (small-drugs, vaccines, and biologics), and cell-based therapy. JOI (Open Access) addresses molecular, developmental, pulmonary, regulatory, nutritional, mechanistic, wildlife, and environmental immunotoxicology, immunology, and toxicology.

Infectious Diseases – including enteric infections and pneumonia, tuberculosis and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) which focuses on prevalence or general clinical prognosis - Infection and Drug Resistance (DIDR). DIDR (Open Access) publishes open access research on anti-infectives, epidemiology, vaccine development and the pathogenesis, etiology and diagnosis of infectious disease.

Hematology - excluding sepsis - Hematology. Hematology (Open Access) publishes open access research on hematology with interdisciplinary approaches including epidemiology, oncology, pathology, biology, clinical cancer research and management.

Women's Health -including endometriosis, mastitis, PCOS, gestational diabetes, pregnancy and maternal health - International Journal of Women’s Health (DJWH) or Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (JOG). DJWH (Open Access) publishes open access research on women’s healthcare, focusing on obstetrics and gynecology, sexual and reproductive health, and psychosocial conditions. JOG (Open Access) publishes open access research on obstetrics and gynecology, covering maternal health, risk factors, diseases, treatment and mortality in clinical practice.

Dental Inflammation including periodontitis and pulpitis - Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dentistry (DCCD) or Journal of Oral Microbiology (JOM). DCCD (Open Access) publishes open access research on dentistry, focusing on cosmetic intervention, including novel materials, techniques and devices, surgery, and orthodontics. JOM (Open Access) publishes open access research on aetiological agents behind oral infectious diseases, including their pathogenesis, virulence, host-parasite interactions, and immunology.

Ocular Inflammation – including uveitis, glaucoma, retinitis, and retinopathy (including diabetic retinopathy) - Ocular Immunology and Inflammation (OII) or Clinical Ophthalmology (DOPH). OII (Open Select) publishes open select research on the diagnosis and treatment of ocular, corneal and retinal inflammation, uveitis, ophthalmology, ocular immunology and vision science. DOPH (Open Access) publishes all subspecialties within ophthalmology.

Non-inflammatory-focused oncology submissions should be directed to related titles Cancer Management and Research (Open Access) and OncoTargets and Therapy (Open Access) .
