Dr. Olubunmi A. Ogunrin is a consultant neurologist at the University Hospitals of North Midlands, Stoke-on-Trent, UK. He was until recently a professor of internal medicine and neurology and honorary consultant physician and neurologist at the University of Benin and University Teaching Hospital Nigeria respectively. He graduated Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences (First Class honours), the Bachelors of Medicine and Surgery, and Master of Science in Bioethics. He received his PhD at University of Liverpool, UK. He is a fellow of the West African College of Physicians, Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, African Scientific Institute and Royal College of Physicians of London. He is a recipient of Certificates in Neuroscience (South Africa), Applied Epidemiology (Emory University/CDC USA) and Medical Statistics (Stanford University, USA). He is a National Institute of Health’s Fogarty International Centre/National Human Genome Research Institute Scholar.
Dr. Ogunrin's research interest is in cognitive neurology of HIV/AIDS ad epilepsy. He has studied the frequency and pattern of cognitive impairments among HIV/AID patients, the effects of highly active anti-retroviral medications on cognitive performances of affected patients and conducted meta-analysis on the impact of cognitive impairments on the overall quality of life of patients with HIV. He also conducts research in the confluent areas of neuroepidemiology, opportunistic infections in HIV, informed consent, and community engagement in genomic research. He is a reviewer to several neurology, bioethics and general medical journals and has authored scientific papers in neurology and bioethics journals.
